The Cyber Crime wing of Gurgaon police have booked an IT professional of an export house on charges of stealing a company’s confidential data containing proprietary designs and other modules. This professional also sold the same data to a rival company in Mumbai through email. The Udyog Vihar based Exports Company Crafts Exports has alleged that the data theft has caused it monetary losses running in millions of rupees.
Having registered a case under the IT Act, the police are still to arrest the accused Deepak Kumar who had fled the company without giving any notice of any kind. Deepak worked as Electronic Data Project In charge. According to the statement given to the police by Satish Garg, the senior official of Crafts Exports, Deepak Kumar had e-mailed vital data of the company to another Mumbai-based company and had pocketed a hefty amount for the commercial in confidence data. He further stated that the company got to know of the data theft many days after Deepak stopped coming to the office. This led to suspicion about his activities and it was later found that Deepak had emailed a number of modules and designs of the company to their rivals
According to police officials at the Udyog Vihar police station, the search for the accused had been launched and raids were being conducted at his possible hideouts. The police officials refused to disclose the places where the raids are being conducted as they felt it could affect the investigation into the case and would have alerted the accused about how close the police were to him.
