VSNL RBU President Shashi Kalathil Resigns

The President of RBU (Retail Business Unit) at VSNL, Shashi Kalathil has resigned. Whether he’s been asked to resign or he did on his own is unclear but the fact of the matter is that he has put in his papers alright. And this is the hottest topic of discussion at VSNL these days.

While people are trying to persuade him to stay on—the usual drama when somebody resigns, there are people who think this was inevitable. Mr. Kalathil was under fire from the directors who are concerned that the company is going nowhere. And rightly so. The revenues of the company have plunged. The image in the market has nose-dived. The employees are confused. There is no clear vision or road map that the company is following. And to top it all, there has been public acknowledgement of the need to re-invent the company. All in all a very sorry picture of the company that Shashi will leave behind (if he doesn’t change his mind that is). However, the real speculation is about who will be the successor. There are a few names floating around but nothing is finalized as yet. Watch this space for an update soon.

For the time being things are in a flux, insecurities are high, and the winners will be — no prizes for guessing this one, certainly those who are in good books of the people who matter!
