Uday*, a network engineer with over 5 years of experience was excited when he got an offer letter from a US firm in Kerala. After all, he had cleared the written test and the interview. However, while joining he was asked to sign an agreement which said ‘no pay for the first 3 months as a Trainee and after that Rs.7000 per month’ on confirmation. Getting a job in Kerala is difficult so he decided to take the offer. During that period he worked like a regular employee in the night shift, while attending training sessions during day. End of the 3rd month he was confirmed with a gross salary of Rs.4500 per month, much less than the promised amount. He is one of the 10 engineers with Cisco and or Microsoft certifications who joined Datasoft Networks, Kochi in December 2005. They are into IT enabled Services and Offshore Web support service.
