Last Monday was just like any normal working day at the QA Labs division of UST Global, one of the leading software companies in Technopark Trivandrum, Kerala till some employees got a mail with a subject ‘Important Message’. UST Global had acquired the Canadian company QA Labs in 2006,  and now the company is in the process of a reorganisation.  As with restructures in any organization, there have been job losses and some nervous employees.

IIT ex-student alleges discrimination

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has been accused of racial discrimination by one of its students. A scheduled caste undergraduate at IIT Delhi has alleged discrimination after he and 11 other SC and Scheduled Tribe students were asked to leave this month. IIT Delhi's Director, Prof Surendra Prasad has also been summoned by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, the apex body for redressing the grievances of such groups, after the student lodged a complaint.

US arrests Indians, American for tech visa violations

This week, the US Government arrested six Indian nationals, as well as the Indian-born American who sponsored them on H-1B visas to work in America.  The US Government allocates about 85,000 H-1B visas every year for people with specialist skills not available in the country.  More then 90 percent of H-1B visas given to Indians are for computing professionals working for majors like TCS, Infosy and Satyam.  More...
